The owners here had a unique request - to convert their unfinished basement into a Japanese style living space.  That way, Norio's mother would have a place to call her own on her annual visit from Japan to see her family.  Shown above is the tea room, with tatami mats on a raised pine platform, and a circular back-lit shoji screen.  Other features of this in-law suite include a separate entrance, living room with gas log fireplace, full bath, kithcenette, and heated tile floor system.
